Co-CEOs David Scherer and Michael Episcope share the story behind their founding of Origin Investments.

MICHAEL We founded origin back in 2007 because Dave and I wanted to take control of our own investment destiny. The options we saw out there just were subpar. They were investment managers that either charge too high fees or they didn’t understand risk. They took too much risk with your money, and it was always like three steps forward, two steps back, two steps forward, sometimes three steps back.
DAVID We wanted to build a company that we believed in and wanted to invest in, and in the beginning it was just me and you, Michael. We invested our own capital and we started to figure out that we were good at it.
MICHAEL There was nothing else like origin. We wanted to create an institutional platform for investors like us,
DAVID And that was the big hole that we saw as so many people that were successful. They had started a business and built wealth for their families, worked hard to get ahead, and when they go to invest, they really didn’t have as individual investors great alternative investment products to invest in.

In 2007, we wanted to invest in real estate to build and protect our own wealth and found that the best opportunities were offered only to large institutional investors.
Unhappy with this lack of access, we founded Origin Investments to enhance the lives of individuals through real estate investments.
We have personally invested more than $91 million alongside our investors since Origin’s inception1 and we compensate our team based on performance to ensure alignment.
