What is a Qualified Opportunity Zone (QOZ)? What is a Qualified Opportunity Fund (QOF)?

Opportunity Zones are economically distressed communities, defined by individual census tract, nominated by America’s governors, and certified by the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury via his delegation of that authority to the Internal Revenue Service.

A Qualified Opportunity Fund (QOF) must meet certain requirements:

  • At least 90% of the Fund’s assets must be Qualified Property in Opportunity Zones.
  • Investments must be made through a Qualified Opportunity Zone Business (QOZB).
  • The Fund must meet ongoing IRS compliance requirements.
